Job DescriptionGST is actively seeking a Junior Scientist / Physics - Chemistry in support of our Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology Directorate (S&T) Transportation Security Laboratory (TSL) customer working full-time at the FAA Technical Center in the Atlantic City, NJ.
The person in this role will perform studies and analyses related to the development of Security technologies.
Assists in planning and executes experiments/tests related to the science of explosives and weapons detection (physics/chemistry), including recording and analysis of data.
Contributes to comprehensive technical reports, data reports and other publications.
RequirementsThe objective of this position is to provide support services required by the DHS to support the production and quality control of trace standards, formulations, solutions, substrates and test articles; the production and packaging of in-house and commercial simulants, and simulant-related test articles.
The Junior Scientist will perform production and packaging at the TSL in accordance with established safety procedures and using product specifications and processes established and documented at the TSL.

Bachelor's Degree in a science field (i.

physics, chemistry) and 2
years of experience in experimental or applied science or experimental design and support.
Associates Degree with specific courses in experimental or applied science (i.
e.
physics, chemistry) and 8
years of experience in experimental or applied science or experimental design and support.
Analyzes, compiles, and reports data collection results for research and development and quality control testing events.
Ability to obtain Secret Security Clearance and DHS Suitability.
Proficient in the use of all Microsoft Office Suite products, Microsoft Internet Explorer, and Adobe Acrobat products.

Collects and analyzes data using gas chromatography (GC), liquid chromatography with mass spectrometry detection (LCMS), and ion chromatography (IC).
Performs microscopy measurements using stereomicroscope or polarized light microscope.
Composes and reviews technical reports and standard operating procedures.
Composes, reviews, and executes test plans.
Performs literature reviews.
Safely handles hazardous materials.
Sources materials and submits purchase requests.
Develops and uses code (MATLAB, Python, R) for data analysis.
Develops and uses code (Maple, LINUX) for data analysis.
A military background or familiarization, as well as an understanding of Explosive / Hazardous Materials subject matter is advantageous.
